About Me

Hi! I’m Brad Chambers. I live in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada.

This is me:

The world is complicated, but I try.

Who Am I?

I am a former teacher and Director of Policy and Planning at the Government of Nunavut. More recently I was a homemaker. I am currently a (very) small business owner and still the family organizer/general/tyrant/leader/bossy one/visionary/cooker-driver (as my daughter calls me).

Why am I writing this?

This blog is an attempt to look Meaningfully Employed to those that think I must be a slacker for not returning to the Real Workforce now that my kids are not home all day. It is also a defence against being sucked back into the bureaucracy, from which I know I, and my family life, will likely never recover.

Ok, but what’s the point?

This blog is about how we affect others. It is also a way I hope to offer something to others with a little thoughtfulness and a little humour. So this is part of the wake I make.

How nice for you. What’s in it for me?

I will look at topics related to how we affect others (social wakes) and the world (environmental wakes). I will also talk about issues that affect us and the decisions that are being made that affect our lives (political wakes). I will occasionally look directly at how we can accentuate those affects where they might be positive, but I think just by being engaged we take a big step towards that. I have spent much more time in my life avoiding spreading damaging wakes than actively trying to have a positive impact, and now I am getting more engaged. I’ll talk about all the angles to that.

So what do you want from me?

Oh! I’m glad you asked! I hope you will engage in the dialogue yourself – tell me when I’m wrong, tell me when I’m right, and tell me when I’ve missed the point somewhere. I hope you and everyone will come along for the ride and think about the wake you make.
